Ah, social media. It was going to connect us in more intimate, authentic ways that the internet ever could previously. You would be able to communicate, one-on-one, with anyone: celebrities, athletes, rock stars, politicians, even if it was just for a short exchange.
And hashtags would allow people to discuss the same topic and communicate with each other. New tribes would be created, and new audiences.
It all sounded so great. You know who it’s really great for though? Trolls! It’s really easy to hate on someone on social media, beyond the veil of anonymity, but in front of a potential audience of millions. I mean, would you really make fun of the President’s jeans to his face?
Alas, it is what it is. And so it was that a book publisher thought it would be a good idea to have the rather polarizing author E.L. James, she of 50 Shades of Gray fame, to answer questions tweeted to her using the #AskELJames hashtag.
As it turned out, her haters were as exited by the prospect as her fans were. Here are some of our favorite hate-tweets.
